Pickleball in Portugal: Where to Play in Lisbon & the Algarve

DinkUp Team · July 2026

Portugal is quietly becoming one of Europe's most interesting pickleball destinations. The mix is unusual: a huge expat and tourist population that already plays back home (especially Americans and Canadians), a year-round outdoor climate, and hundreds of underused tennis and padel facilities that can convert a court in an afternoon.

Lisbon & Cascais

The Lisbon area is where Portuguese pickleball is growing fastest. Most play happens on converted tennis and padel courts at private clubs, with regular organized sessions around Cascais, Oeiras, and Sintra — areas with big international communities. Weekday morning sessions are dominated by retirees and remote workers; evenings and weekends skew younger and more competitive.

The practical challenge in Lisbon isn't finding a court — it's finding people at your level at the right time. Games are organized in scattered WhatsApp groups, and if you're not in the right one, the scene is invisible.

The Algarve

The Algarve is Portugal's pickleball heartland — and it's where DinkUp was born. Tourist resorts from Lagos to Vilamoura to Tavira have been adding dedicated lines and portable nets because guests kept asking for them. Winter is peak season: the "snowbird" wave of northern Europeans and North Americans brings experienced players who want serious games, not just holiday rallies.

What about padel?

Portugal is one of the world's strongest padel markets, and the two sports feed each other. Many clubs run both, and padel players convert to pickleball quickly (see our padel vs pickleball guide). If you already play padel, your soft game will translate faster than you expect.

Finding a game

This is exactly the problem DinkUp solves: open the map, filter by pickleball (or padel/tennis), see who's playing right now, and join a game in one tap — no WhatsApp archaeology required. New to the sport? Start with our complete pickleball rules guide.
