Pickleball in Asia: The Fastest-Growing Scene on Earth

DinkUp Team · July 2026

If North America invented the pickleball boom, Asia is where it's compounding fastest. Dense cities, strong racket-sport cultures (badminton, table tennis, tennis), and a sport that fits on a badminton-sized footprint — the ingredients were already there.

Singapore

Pound for pound, possibly the most organized scene in Asia. Community centres and condo facilities host regular sessions, and the expat-local mix keeps standards high. Badminton converts are everywhere — the hand speed transfers instantly, and courts convert with nothing but tape and a lower net.

Japan

Japan's scene is smaller but growing in a very Japanese way: organized clubs, excellent etiquette, and serious attention to technique. Tokyo and Osaka have dedicated groups, and the country's deep soft-tennis and table-tennis base produces players with frighteningly good touch at the kitchen.

Thailand

Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hua Hin are becoming winter destinations for traveling players — the same snowbird dynamic as Portugal's Algarve. Resorts and gyms are adding courts, and the mix of digital nomads, retirees, and tourists means you can find a pickup game most days of the week in the main hubs.

India & the Philippines

Two sleeping giants. India has national-level tournaments and a fast-professionalizing federation scene; the Philippines has strong grassroots growth with courts appearing in malls and barangay facilities alike. Both benefit from huge young populations discovering the sport through social media.

The common thread

In every one of these cities, the courts exist — the discovery layer doesn't. Scenes live in closed chat groups and local knowledge. DinkUp's map works anywhere in the world: find pickleball, padel, and tennis courts near you, see activity, and connect with the players already there. Traveling through Asia with a paddle in your bag? You'll never have to guess where the game is.
